The Pupil Welcomes Back Dr. Don Thomas | Inspiring Minds Beyond Earth

Seven years after his first visit to The Pupil in August 2019, we were honoured to welcome back Dr. Don Thomas, Veteran NASA Astronaut, Scientist, and Educator, for an engaging and insightful interaction with our students.

Having completed four Space Shuttle missions and spent over 1,040 hours in space, Dr. Thomas shared fascinating insights from his experiences in space exploration. His interaction introduced our Pupilites to the realities of space travel, life in orbit, scientific experiments in microgravity, the future of human space exploration, and the journey towards becoming an astronaut.

The session was enriched by the enthusiastic participation of our students, whose thoughtful questions sparked meaningful discussions and encouraged them to explore the realms of science and space beyond their textbooks.

Dr. Thomas’s inspiring journey, marked by perseverance and determination in overcoming setbacks to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut, reinforced the importance of pursuing aspirations with courage and resilience.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Kayambu Ramalingam and Go 4 Guru for their collaboration in making this enriching interaction possible.

Dr. Thomas’s return to The Pupil was a memorable experience that encouraged our students to question, explore, dream boldly, and reach for the stars.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day | A Lesson in Peace

Grade 4 and 8 students observed Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day through a meaningful classroom activity that encouraged reflection on peace, compassion, and kindness.

The students explored the historical significance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and learned about the origami crane as a symbol of peace, inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki. With patience and creativity, they folded paper cranes while reflecting on the importance of choosing peace over conflict.

The activity fostered empathy and awareness, encouraging students to recognise how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference and contribute to a more peaceful world. It was a thoughtful learning experience that inspired hope and compassion among the young learners.

Little Hearts, Lasting Friendships

Our UKG learners celebrated Friendship Day with joy and enthusiasm by exchanging colourful friendship bands with their friends.

The heartwarming activity encouraged the children to express care, appreciation, and affection, while nurturing a sense of togetherness and camaraderie. Through this simple yet meaningful celebration, our young learners experienced the joy of giving, sharing, and cherishing the special bonds of friendship.

Weaving the Threads of India’s Heritage

Grade 5 students of The Pupil Saveetha Eco School observed National Handloom Day through a creative and engaging hands-on activity. By creating God’s Eye weaving crafts, the learners explored India’s rich handloom traditions and gained an appreciation for sustainable and locally crafted products.

The students further showcased their creativity through a vibrant corridor display featuring a Charkha model and their handmade crafts, symbolising self-reliance, cultural heritage, and sustainability.

The celebration provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect creativity with India’s rich handloom legacy and appreciate the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship.

From Learning to Action: World Elephant Day

Our UKG and Grade 2 learners observed World Elephant Day through engaging activities that fostered awareness and appreciation for wildlife.

The UKG children participated in a creative elephant-colouring activity while learning about this magnificent animal. Grade 2 learners explored elephant habitats, food, behaviour, and conservation through the story “Elephant in My Backyard,” discussions, and visual learning.

As part of their Taking Action activity, the students made conservation pledges on elephant footprint cut-outs and created an “Elephant Path of Promises” classroom display.

The activities nurtured creativity, communication, and empathy while inspiring our young learners to protect wildlife and care for the planet.

International Whale Shark Day - Discovering the Wonders of Whale Sharks

Grade 2 students observed International Whale Shark Day under the theme “Sharing the Planet”, exploring the fascinating world of whale sharks and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.

Through engaging visuals, discussions, and creative activities, students discovered that whale sharks are the world’s largest fish and gentle filter feeders. They also learned about threats such as plastic pollution, boat strikes, and overfishing, and reflected on ways to protect marine life.

The “I Learned, I Wonder, I Can” activity encouraged students to share their learning, ask thoughtful questions, and identify simple actions such as reducing single-use plastics, participating in beach clean-ups, and spreading awareness.

A creative mapping activity further helped students explore the whale shark’s ocean “friends” and “enemies,” highlighting how human choices can positively or negatively impact marine ecosystems.

Small actions can create big waves of change. Together, let’s protect our oceans and the magnificent creatures that call them home.

World Humanitarian Day | Small Acts, Big Difference

On World Humanitarian Day, Grade 7 students participated in an engaging session on “Small Acts, Big Difference.” Through real-life examples, videos, visual presentations, and meaningful interactions, students explored how simple acts of kindness, empathy, sharing, and standing up against bullying can make a positive difference.
