Poem - A Girl I Met

The girl with the pink gown
Sang, tears dripping down
She looked sullen and pale
With painful hidden take.

No one could ever gauge
Her pain at this age
Does she cry of her last?
Or the life she had lost?

She was singing all alone
In a quiet, melancholy tone
Her tears probed very deep
Will haunt, even in the sleep.

Pain is a part of life
Like sharp edges of knife
If we learn to overcome this
Life will be full of bliss.

Leadership Insight

Dear Parents,
As we bid farewell to 2024, let us embrace 2025 with optimism, love, joy, and hope. May peace and harmony guide us through this new year, and may all our dreams and aspirations come true.

Each new year represents a fresh start, a beacon of hope and potential. As Maria Montessori beautifully said, "The child is both a hope and a promise to mankind." Let us reflect on this deeply and commit to nurturing not only the children in our care but also the child within each of us.

God has entrusted us with the sacred responsibility of caring for and nurturing children, who represent our collective future. The ultimate purpose of life is to evolve into the best version of ourselves. Together, let us strive to create an environment that fosters growth, inspires excellence, and brings out the best in every child.

On this note, let us renew our dedication to the well-being and development of children. Wishing each of you a joyful and prosperous 2025! May all your dreams and aspirations come true!

The Rising Popularity and Need for Sustainable Architecture

Sustainable architecture, also known as “green architecture”, is a decades-old concept, first starting in the 1970s, when various architects, including Buckminster Fuller, pushed for sustainable design, emphasizing its many benefits. Since then, it has gained a lot of traction. This form of architecture plays a significant role in sustainable living.

The built environment is responsible for 42% of the world’s carbon emissions, 15% of which is due to the manufacturing and extraction of building materials. Nearly every city in the world uses 4 major building materials; concrete, steel, masonry, and wood. Out of these materials, the first three materials have very high carbon footprints. In green architecture, by using sustainable materials a considerable decrease in the overall carbon consumption can be achieved. This method of building also has practical advantages. “You can replace one part of timber when it needs to be replaced, unlike concrete building, where you would have to replace the whole building,” says Kengo Kuma, an esteemed architect and professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo.

Design is just as crucial as materials. Through conscious design, these buildings can be turned into major resource savers. An example of such a building would be the Beitou Public Library, completed in 2014, the first green building in Taiwan. It’s well renowned for its earthy ambience and incorporation of the nature surrounding it. It’s fitted with large floor-to-ceiling windows, which bring in an abundance of light throughout the day, saving energy used for indoor light fixtures. In addition to this, the large solar panels on the roof store energy and supply power needed at night. By integrating these ingenious methods, the Beitou Public Library has maintained a comparatively lower operational cost and cut down expenses related to energy.
Sustainable architecture has notably brought a vast change to the architectural world that we know. The clever implementation of renewable resources and the incorporation of innovative methods allow a reduction in energy consumption, better-ventilated environments, and most importantly, the overall reduction in carbon emissions produced yearly by nearly 35% in the built environment, bringing the concerning 42% down to around 7%. It is clear that the rise of green architecture is not a passing period of trend, but rather an indispensable and essential part of architecture.

Exploring the World of Math Beyond Classrooms: Mathalon 2024-25

Although mathematics is a subject by itself, we at, The Pupil want to go beyond textbooks and classrooms. We want to celebrate Mathematics as an integral part of our daily lives – after all, humans have been ‘counting as a basic necessity of everyday life for thousands of years’. For instance, we all enjoy music.

How often do we stop to think about the mathematics behind it? From the notes to rhythm, from scales to intervals, the harmonies, tone, pitch – are all closely connected to, yes you guessed right – mathematics!

We invited students of Grade 4 and 5 (Junior Category ) and briefed on the Mathalon event. Consent Google form was shared to the registered mail id to participate in the event so as to trace the curious minds. The event aimed to provide them with opportunity to showcase their knowledge, test their mettle and develop 21st century learning skills such as time management, team work and interpersonal skills.

We conducted a preliminary round for the participants, which were completely objective type questions. It focused on testing the conceptual understanding and questions were designed to foster problem solving skills. From here, eligible students were grouped as teams. Each team comprised of 4 students ( 2 from each of the grades ). The next challenge was in the form of ‘Treasure Hunt’, planned at 6 spots around the school.

Each team was clearly briefed on the terms and conditions of the event. Each team had to solve a riddle to move to their locations while each location had questions to be solved. Ranking was based on accuracy achieved in lesser time. Based on their performance, 5 teams were finalized for the next round of Quiz.
