Nishkama Karma – The Power of Effort Without Expectation

The month of February heralds the onset of school examinations, accompanied by an uninvited companion - stress. For many students, stress takes the driver’s seat during this period, steering thoughts toward fear of results. This hinders focus on exam preparations.

At such times, it is helpful to reflect on the principle of Nishkama Karma, a central tenet of the Bhagavad Gita. Nishkama Karma means performing one’s duty sincerely and wholeheartedly, without attachment to the outcome.

Often, stress is not caused by the examination itself, but by anxiety about the results. When we shift our focus from “What will I score?” to “Have I done my best?”, the burden lightens. Practicing Nishkama Karma helps us to focus on what we can control-effort, and not worry about what we cannot control-results.

Dear students, trust your preparedness and believe in yourself. Examinations are an opportunity to present what you have learned-not a measure of your worth.

Here are a few simple reminders during the examination season:

A single examination does not decide one’s destiny. Success is built over a lifetime, through consistent effort, resilience, and character.

Approach your exams with confidence, composure, and the spirit of Nishkama Karma — doing your very best, and leaving the rest to follow naturally.

All the Best.

Warmly,
Ms. Punithalakshmi,
Vice Principal - Training & Events Coordination
The Pupil Saveetha Eco School.
